We’ve been talking a lot about whole body cryotherapy (WBC), let’s attempt to explain what cryotherapy chemistry really is. We know cryotherapy has become popular among athletes and it’s even being labeled as the new weight loss trend. In WBC, you expose your body to sub zero temperatures, sometimes lower than -200°F and it benefits the body in many ways.

The heart of the matter

It’s no news that we need to keep the blood flow going. We’re not really designed for sedentary lives and office work takes a huge toll on our cardiovascular system, because we rarely increase our heart rate. We’re told so stand up, walk, move our body, let the blood circulate through our veins. This helps the body in more ways than one, preventing blood clots, renewing the blood cells and much more.

We’re also told to shower with warm water as hot water can hurt the skin, and then do a 2-minute cold water splash to increase blood circulation. Why is circulation so important? Because it transports oxygen and nutrients through our arteries and to our organs, tissues and cells and at the same time it carries away carbon dioxide and other waste substances. The heart acts as the pump “transporting oxygenated blood to our organs, then carrying de-oxygenated blood from our organs back to the lungs to get oxygenated again”, per William Imbo.

The cardiovascular system is literally a vital distributor to all the organs.

It’s all about chemistry, cryotherapy chemistry.

When we enter the cryotherapy chamber, it’s like entering a chemistry lab, in a way. The cold temperatures will constrict the blood vessels and after each session they will dilate, making the blood rush back and circulate in a good rhythm to start flowing, carrying oxygen through your body, the heart being the one renewing the blood and then releasing the waste out of your body. Like William Imbo says in “The importance of good blood flow + a few tips to improve it“, healthy blood circulation is what keeps us alive. Having poor circulation can lead to many problems such as high blood pressure, muscle cramps, numbness, leg ulcers, blood clots, varicose veins, cardiovascular disease and organ damage. No one wants that!

Cryotherapy chemistry is nothing new, we know what good circulation does to our body, we know how cold temperatures help impulse that cycle of oxygen-heart-waste-new blood and along with a good workout routine should come an essential recovery time. Cryotherapy can help with that and much more! It also helps with muscle and tissue recovery, skin conditions and even emotional health.
