Some people are satisfied with just knowing the positive effects of cryotherapy while others want to know how and why it works. The cold air induces analgesia, the inability to feel internal pain. Immediately following a cryotherapy treatment your brain will release endorphins that can suppress pain and inflammation for up to several weeks.
During the cryotherapy sessions, your capillaries and skin vessels will endure what is called vasoconstriction. Vasoconstriction will keep your body’s core temperature from lowering. After your cryotherapy session, your skin vessels and capillaries will rapidly transition to the vasodilation (widening of blood vessels) process. This vasodilation will force toxins out of your inner layers of skin and tissue.
It is recommended to do a light work out immediately after a cryotherapy treatment. When you work out, blood will pass through your body at a faster rate. When your blood is moving at a faster rate, white blood cells, oxygen and nutrients will be able to pass through the walls of your capillaries into your tissue fluids. Exercising will allow more toxins to be pushed out of your tissues. Exercising will also allow oxygen and white blood cells to reach areas of your body that need to be healed. Essentially exercising after a cryotherapy session pushes more of the bad stuff out and allows more of the good stuff to go where it is needed. Want to learn more about cryotherapy?
